How Digital ID Verification Is Done, How Does ID Verification Work?

ID Verification is the process by which information about an individual’s identity is matched. Identity Verfication is an extremely important process in an online environment where there is a risk of identity theft.

Identity verification proves that the transaction will be done by a real person and the person is the same person whom she or he claims to be. With ID Verification , unauthorized transactions with fake identities are prevented.

Face-to-face identity verification process begins when people go to institutions such as bank branches, dealers and public institutions. The person gives their identity card, fills out the application form and the identity verification process is started. This process is both time consuming and costly.

Digital identity verification can be done online from end to end using a smart phone without going to the relevant institution. It is sufficient for the device to have a camera and internet access.

ID’s front and back photos are taken with the mobile device’s camera. If the mobile device supports NFC technology, the identity information in the chip on the ID card is read with NFC. Optionally, ID verification can be done with a video call, which is one of the secure authentication processes. For this process, the data inside the chip is used. Artificial intelligence powered liveness analysis and biometric analysis are performed during the video call to verify an individual is a real person. The process is completed by recording the identity or person’s photos, analysis and verification evidences in the institution system.

Authentication is an essential requirement for many online processes and procedures for opening a bank account or paying or registering electronically.

How does the online identity verification process work?

  1. The person uses the mobile application of the company, institution or organization to register.
  2. Accepts camera and microphone access for ID verification.
  3. The person will take a photo of the front and back of the ID.
  4. If the person uses an NFC supported device, the ID chip is read with NFC technology.
  5. A chip activity check is done to make sure the chip is not duplicated. (Active and Passive Authentication)
  6. The user takes a photo (selfie) of his/her own face with the device’s camera.
  7. The user connects to the Video Call Center via the mobile application and makes a video call with the customer representative.
  8. Artificial intelligence powered liveness analysis is done.
  9. All data belonging to the verified user are stored digitally.
